Bruno Mars and New Songs

JJ: Tell us how you got the music.

BM: My father is a musician and my mother was a singer. My father  New Songs  was from Brooklyn and was a Latin percussionist, so I always had instruments around the house. He used to play a show as a rock and roll 1950 with Little Richard's music. Would do, doo-wop songs and stuff like that. My uncle would imitate Elvis, so I used to watch him and I said one day: "Coach, put me in" So basically I had 2-3 years, and he brought me on stage.

JJ: So young!

BM: Yes, I was a child - a Tyke!

JJ: What are your musical inspirations at this time?

BM: Everyone, man. I have much love for classical music and I feel so much incredible music. As a producer, I get this question a lot. I like to work with Coldplay one day. You know, you get  New Songs a little 'round. You should know a number of music and have Michael Jackson Songs respect for all types of musical genres and styles.

JJ: Any other artists for the album have?

BM: I'm Damian Marley (the youngest son of Bob Marley) on a song called "Liquor Store Blues." Being from Hawaii, a lot of people do not know that reggae is huge out there, and I will be in a reggae band, when I was in Hawaii. So if I had the song, I made the call to Damian. It 'was on tour, I had not   New Songs even met yet. He heard the song and we have in the studio and did his thing.

JJ: You grew up in Hawaii, but are of Filipino and Puerto Rico.

BM: Yes, my mother is Filipino and my father is from Puerto Rico - my father is actually a lot of stuff.

JJ: Growing up, did your mom cook for you? What was your favorite Puerto Rico food, Filipino food?

BM: Chicken Adobo course. My father's mother had this thing called  country love songs Spanish rice. It is yellow rice with olives, peppers and lots of other things.

JJ: Do you cook for yourself?

BM: A little. ' Can I down. The Pop Tarts. (Laughs) Actually I can. I learned a lot from my mother.

JJ: Who are you listening to right now?

BM: I bought albums by Lil Wayne last night at the hotel. I Drake albums. I have a lot of Beach Boys just listen.

JJ: Have you heard Rihanna's "Only Girl In The World"?

BM: Really fast. I just heard a clip on iTunes. I knocked [my] and I said "what?" It seemed like a good old Rihanna.
